Rules and Regulations for Submission Wrestling

Submission Wrestling “Newcomers” and “Beginners”

Fight Time:

The matches in the “Newcomers” and “Beginners” divisions will last the following durations:

Newcomer (Athletes with less than 1 ½ years of experience and/or white belt)
Children A: 2 minutes for each match
Children B: 3 minutes for each match
Children C: 4 minutes for each match
Juniors A: 6 minutes for each match, 2 rounds in the finals
Juniors B: 7 minutes for each match, 2 rounds in the finals
Adults: 8 minutes for each match, 2 rounds in the finals
Masters: 7 minutes for each match, 2 rounds in the finals
Seniors: 6 minutes for each match, 2 rounds in the finals

Beginners (Adult athletes with less than 3 years of experience and/or blue belt. No limitations for Children and Juniors, so all Children and Juniors above Newcomers will fight Beginners)
Children A: 3 minutes for each match
Children B: 4 minutes for each match
Children C: 6 minutes for each match
Juniors A: 7 minutes for each match, 2 rounds in the finals
Juniors B: 8 minutes for each match, 2 rounds in the finals
Adults: 10 minutes for each match, 2 rounds in the finals
Masters: 8 minutes for each match, 2 rounds in the finals
Seniors: 7 minutes for each match, 2 rounds in the finals

Tournament Style:

KO-System. The winner of each match advances to the next round. The loser of a match is out of the tournament. The losers of the semi-finals will fight for the 3rd place.

Age-/Weight-Classes:

The following age- and weight-division will be in effect at this tournament:
Children A female and male (6, 7 and 8 years old): -25 kg, -30 kg, -35 kg, +35 kg Children B female and male (9, 10 and 11 years old): -30 kg, -35 kg, -40 kg, +40 kg
Children C female and male (12 and 13 years old): -40 kg, -45 kg, -50 kg, +50 kg
Juniors A female and male (14 and 15 years old): -45 kg, -50 kg, -55 kg, -60 kg, +60 kg
Juniors B female and male (16 and 17 years old): -50 kg, -55 kg, -60 kg, -65 kg, -70 kg, +70 kg
Women (18 years +): -50 kg, -55 kg, -60 kg, -65 kg, -70 kg, +70 kg, Absolute Class
Men (18 years +): -63 kg, -68 kg, -73 kg, -78 kg, -83 kg, -89 kg, -95 kg, +95 kg, Absolute Class
Masters (35-40 years): -73 kg, -83 kg, +83 kg
Seniors (40 years +): -73 kg, -83 kg, +83 kg

If a division shows only two or less competitors the promoters will put the fighters of this division to the next higher/lower weight division.

Clothing:

Fight shorts or suitable clothes. Dogi, Kimono, Wrestling Shoes, Rash guards or T-Shirts are optional. Kneepads etc. may be worn.

Mat:

Mat Area is 7x7 m, no cage or fence. If the fighters go out of this area the Referee will restart the fight in the centre of the mat in the same position they were when they left the mat. If the fighters were standing they will start again facing each other standing in the centre of the mat.

Illegal/Legal Techniques and Points:

The rules are modified for children, juniors and adults in the “Beginners” division. The following rules apply:

Children A:

No chokes are allowed
No locks to the leg and feet are allowed
No throws, where opponent will be thrown to the head or neck
No manipulation of small joints (fingers and toes). At least three fingers or toes must be gripped.
No attacks to pressure-pointsNo neck cranks
No grabbing in the face, to the hair or to the ears
If a fighter can throw his opponent and ends up passed the guard he will be awarded 2 points (1 point if the throw ends in the guard)
Jumping to the guard will not be awarded with points
If a fighter can escape the guard position by passing the legs completely and secure a dominant position (side mount, kesa-gatame), he will be awarded 2 points
If a fighter can secure a mount position for at least three seconds with dominant control over his opponent he will be awarded 3 points
If a fighter can secure a back mount position for at least three seconds with dominant control over his opponent he will be awarded 4 points
The referee can stop the fight at any time, when a lock is applied properly or one fighter is too dominant over his opponent for the fighter’s safety

Children B and C:

Chokes are allowed in these divisions, but it is prohibited to close the windpipe with a grip of the fingers.
No pressure with the tip of the elbow to the throat.
No locks to the legs and feet are allowedNo throws, where opponent will be thrown to the head or neck
No manipulation of small joints (fingers and toes). At least three fingers or toes must be gripped.
No attacks to pressure-pointsNo neck cranks
No grabbing in the face, to the hair or to the ears

No heel hooks or toeholds (twisters) are allowed
Straight ankle locks and knee bars are allowed
No throws, where opponent will be thrown to the head or neck

No grabbing in the face, to the hair or to the ears
If a fighter can throw his opponent and ends up passed the guard he will be awarded 2 points (1 point if the throw ends in the guard)

How you can win:

The winner will be decided according to:

If one competitor gives up or submits by tapping the leg, arm or verbally
If referee feels one competitor is unable to defend himself or feels he is in danger, the referee will stop the fight and declare the winner
If a fighter breaks the rules twice he will be disqualified by the referee
In case of a draw, there will be an overtime, where the fighter, who scores the first point, will be declared the winner (sudden death rule)

Submission Wrestling “Advanced”

Fight Time:

There is NO time-limit for the fights and NO points will be scored! A fight ends only by submission, referee stoppage or disqualification.

Tournament Style:

No closing the windpipe with the hand
No touching the groin area
No grabbing to the face, eyes, hair or ears
No fish hooking
No eye gouging
No attacks to pressure points
No small joint manipulations (grab at least three fingers or toes)
No punching and kicking

Penalties (yellow card):

Stalling = yellow card
Running away = yellow card
If a fighter cumulates three yellow cards during the entire competition, he will be disqualified
